Jewett Child Development Center: Yakima Family YMCA

The Jewett Child Development Center is the realization of a dream to provide the Yakima Family YMCA with a state-of-the-art childcare center. Mrs. Helen Jewett, a gracious Yakima philanthropist, donated the funds for both the purchase of the property and the construction of the center. The members of our staff worked closely with Mrs. Jewett and the YMCA staff to design a center which would provide a learning environment for children from 2 – 6 years of age as well as closely adhering to the guidelines of the regulating agencies.

The Center design incorporated large colorful, “Crayon”-shaped columns on both the interior and exterior. The interior spaces are light and airy with the windows in the childcare areas positioned just 18 inches from the floor to allow smaller children to view outside activities.
