Blew's ConstructionThe new Grandview Library was designed as a joint use facility for the City of Grandview and Yakima Valley College. The building provides facilities commonly found in a public library while meeting the academic needs of the YVC students. The library houses a general book collection as well as areas specially designed for their Art Collection, the Children’s Library, Teens, Reference, and Audio/Visual media. The building also contains a Program Room which is intended to accommodate community meetings, speakers, and children’s programs.
The Children’s Library was designed with an entry arch formed from a sculpted apple tree filled with friendly book reading characters including a wise old owl, raccoon, and skunk. The arch is completed by a stack of hay bales and books, which serves as a seat for two welcoming goats, a cat, and a group of chicks.
The building has a very energy efficient design and incorporates environmentally friendly, sustainable materials. This project received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certification.
