Jewett Child Development Center
The Jewett Child Development Center is the realization of a dream to provide the Yakima Family YMCA with a state-of-the-art child care center. Mrs. Helen Jewett, a gracious Yakima philanthropist, donated the funds for both the purchase of the property and the construction of the center. The staff of Brockway, Opfer, Raab Architecture worked closely with Mrs. Jewett and the YMCA staff to desgin a center which would provide a high quality learning environment for children from 2 - 6 years of age as well as closely adhering to the guidelines of the regulating agencies.
The Center design incorporated large, colorful "crayon" shaped columns on both the interior and exterior of the building. The interior spaces are light and airy with the windows in the child care areas positioned just 18 inches from the floor to allow smaller children to view the outdoor activities.
